Take a magical tour that will transport you to Christmases of old. This year Yuletide will explore lights and wedding celebrations of the mid-1800s. Is there a decoration more universally associated with a holiday than lights are with Christmas? This year’s tour will take a look at the traditions early Americans brought with them from their European homelands, the various devices used to safely light up Christmas trees in pre-electricity days, and color wheels and bubble lights of the mid-20th century. Discover how lights were used not only to brighten long winter nights but also to enrich holiday experiences. Enjoy special displays recalling du Pont family holiday traditions and winter festivities. Be inspired and amazed by an array of fanciful decorated trees throughout the tour-including the magnificent dried-flower tree. For the first time, the Yuletide tour is free to Winterthur Members and is included in general admission for nonmembers at Winterthur.
